Remarks: Carryout only

This establishment is very popular with the Hispanic locals. The Herndon Grocery & Deli is a Hispanic minimart with a carryout counter in the back. The service is almost exclusively in Spanish. There is a picture menu on the wall, and there is a wallet-sized menu available with English descriptions. Menu items include many authentic Central American specialties including atol, which is a hot sweet drink made from corn; Honduran baleadas, which are unusual burritos with beans, eggs and a sharp cream cheese; carne asada served with rice, salad and tortillas; papusas; rotisserie chicken; a selection of soups and more. A taco is served with mostly meat and soft shell and is only $2, and tamales are $1.50. Most menu items are around $4-$8. Breakfast is available all day, sometimes served with fried plantains. Credit cards are accepted.

The Herndon Grocery and Bakery has a large variety of fresh baked goods. I like to pick up something on my way in to work in the morning and enjoy with a cup of hot tea. The Pupuseria Mi Champita has really good Salvadorian Pupusas. For about $6, you get three cheese pupusas with cabbage salad and sauce. They're very tasty. They also offer cheese & bean pupusas and cheese & pork pupusas which I haven't tried yet. I also recommend the Tacos de Asada. You get three tacos topped with fresh avacado and sliced radish. They give generous portions, so you'll definitely get filled up on three tacos. I recommended them over Chipotle. The Pupuseria also has a large menu of Salvadorian dishes and breakfast items.
