Herndon
Grocery & Deli This establishment is very popular with the Hispanic locals. The Herndon
Grocery & Deli is a Hispanic minimart with a carryout counter in the
back. The service is almost exclusively in Spanish. There is a picture
menu on the wall, and there is a wallet-sized menu available with English
descriptions. Menu items include many authentic Central American specialties
including atol, which is a hot sweet drink made from corn; Honduran baleadas,
which are unusual burritos with beans, eggs and a sharp cream cheese;
carne asada served with rice, salad and tortillas; papusas; rotisserie
chicken; a selection of soups and more. A taco is served with mostly meat
and soft shell and is only $2, and tamales are $1.50. Most menu items
are around $4-$8. Breakfast is available all day, sometimes served with
fried plantains. Credit cards are accepted. |
