Pollo Real might not look very attractive from the outside, but this is the quintessential Herndon "dive" restaurant that offers exceptional authentic ethnic dining at a very reasonable price. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious and clean, with Peruvian pictures on the walls, and the service is friendly and efficent. They have the best rotisserie chicken ("pollo a la brasa") and best carne asada in town! The chicken has a wonderful charcoal flavor, moist but not greasy. The hearty carne asada ($9.99) is tender steak marinated just right and served with rice, beans, salad, avocado, 2 hunks of traditional white cheese, and tortillas. Other interesting menu items include whole fried fish, cowfeet soup, papusas, platanos, fried yuca, taquitos, tamales and more. There is also a selection of ethnic drinks and desserts. No alcohol is served. Smoking is permitted. No delivery available. Credit cards accepted.
